Connemara is a unique and very special part of Ireland. Situated on the most western seaboard of Europe, this unspoiled region features breathtaking scenery, rugged unpolluted coastline, dramatic mountains, numerous lakes and rivers, woodlands and a National Park. From its rugged coastline to jagged mountain peaks, Connemara is a place of great natural beauty. Along coastline peat bogs, cliffs and small stone-walled fields characterise the landscape. Connemara attracts and inspires artists, painters, photographers and poets, and usually leaves visitors speechless.

 

The property is located on the Wild Atlantic Way magnificently situated in a peaceful rural area with panoramic views. Built in 2000 in a stunning and unique location at the foot of the Sheffry Hills of Ben Gorm (the Blue Mountain) on an elevated site of 1.9 hectares (over 2.2 acres) overlooking Killary Harbour and is less than half a kilometre to Aasleagh Falls where the river Erriff flows into Killary Harbour, Ireland’s only fjord. The property looks across Killary Fjord towards Connemara and the Maumturk Mountains, hence its name “Connemara View”.

 

The village of Leenane, where the movie "The Field" was filmed, is 5km from the property and offers traditional local pubs and has cafés, restaurant, heritage craft centres and hotel.

 

A wide variety of outdoor pursuits available include fresh and deep water sea angling, walking/hill walking, cycling, canoeing, surfing, sailing, swimming, diving, sea cruising, snorkelling, golfing, horse riding, bird watching and the activities at the local Killary and Delphi Adventure Centres. There are also many Blue Flag Beaches nearby. An excellent spa facility can be found at the nearby Delphi Hotel.

 

Local activities and attractions include: a sightseeing cruise on Killary Fjord, Westport House & Gardens , Croagh Patrick Holy Mountain, Killary Sheep Farm, The Western Greenway (42km of dedicated cycle/walkway from Westport to Achill Island), Achill & Atlantic Drive, Omey Tidal Island, Sky Road Drive/Walk, The Western Way walking route, Doolough Valley (scene of the tragic famine walk in 1849) and the beautiful valley of Lough Inagh and of course Connaught’s number one visitor attraction - Kylemore Abbey and Victorian Walled Garden.

Additionally the 265 kilometre coastal route from the Cliffs of Moher to Westport, which passes by our property, has been described by the Automobile Association’s magazine as one of the Ten Great World Drives.

 

 Westport - Our nearest town is Westport (20km), voted “Best Place to Live in Ireland” and frequently voted Ireland’s Tidiest Town “. It is a unique and charming heritage town with a full range of tourist facilities.

 

Galway - Our nearest city is Galway (65km) a university city with a population of about 75,000 people and is a vibrant, bustling centre of the arts, culture and commerce with a relaxed and intimate atmosphere. Its medieval streets, waterways, music sessions and other cultural events make Galway one of the most charming cities of Ireland.
